Scottrade

Scottrade has the lowest fees for a beginning investor. At $7 for both market and limit orders, their fees are lower than those of Ameritrade, Etrade, or other discount brokerages. Another benefit is local branches in major cities, which make it easier to drop off deposits. Opening an account requires about $500. Although other services like Ameritrade Izone and Brown Co can offer trading stocks for $5 commissions, they require a $5,000 and $10,000 account minimums, respectively. Scottrade offers low rates set at $7 without additional fees and good customer service at local branches.
